About The Trainers
Julee Fullenwider
20 years of dog training experience
I love helping individuals and families have great canine companions. I teach owners techniques that work for their household, their family and for their dog, overcoming the obstacles and reaching their goal of a well-mannered, obedient dog who everyone loves - family, friends, neighbors and sometimes other dogs & pets.
I believe the easiest and most humane way to train your dog is to prevent him/her from learning bad habits, rewarding good behaviors, and setting limits. However even a dog that has learned bad habits, can re-learn good ones. I teach you the techniques that will work the most effectively and efficiently for your household and family resulting in a well mannered, obedient dog. By rewarding your dog’s success and setting clear boundaries, you can achieve this goal quickly. I would love to help you train your dog to be a great family pet.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND:
- From 1986 - 1990, I lived and worked at a dog-training kennel. Pet dogs were boarded for both behavior and obedience training.
- I hold two California Teaching Credentials (Multiple and Single subject K-12).
- I worked for Canine Companions for Independence in Santa Rosa for 3 years where I evaluated dogs to determine their potential as breeding stock, wrote the breeder caretaker¹s manual, developed the puppy test given to all 7 week old pups, and helped write the CCI Puppy Raiser Manual.
- For seven years, I wrote articles for the North Bay Pets, the Humane Society of Sonoma County magazine. I am currently the lead trainer, doing behavior consulting and training of shelter dogs as well as leading group and private training classes for the Humane Society.
- I also own and operate Best Friends Dog Training in Sonoma County. Since 1991, I have worked with thousands of dogs and their families helping them achieve their goal of a great family dog.

Pat Engel
8 years of dog training experience
I am a lifelong animal lover, where my passion began as a teenager working in a professional kennel, taking care of and training show dogs. After raising two children and having a 13 year career as a preschool teacher, I returned to dog training by raising my first CCI (Canine Companions for Independence) puppy.
I have accomplished a variety of things during my eight years as a professional in the dog training world, including running doggie day care for up to 25 dogs, teaching group obedience classes, doing private obedience and behavioral training for dogs and their owners, teaching in a summer camp for kids and their dogs, training dogs to earn AKC awards, doing pet therapy visits in local nursing homes and enjoying the activity of living with my own four dogs. In January 2005 I began working at the Humane Society evaluating and training shelter dogs, teaching obedience classes and training volunteers to work with shelter dogs.
I can’t imagine life without the companionship of (well trained) dogs. My goal as a trainer is to help people have the best relationship possible with their dogs through a correct understanding of dog behavior and training.
