Our Gardens
One of the unique experience’s a child has at Forget Me Not Farm is to witness the growth of a seed into a flower or edible plant. Gardening helps a child build strength in developmental areas that may have been stunted as a result of abuse. A child’s self-esteem is bolstered when through their efforts seedlings become plants, flowers bloom and vegetables grow into edibles to be shared. A child experiences colors, smells and textures in a highly nurturing environment that is non-judgmental, non-threatening and non-discriminating.
The Orchard
Pears, apples, grapefruit, lemons, limes and even olives are grown in the orchard. Children harvest these trees and enjoy eating the fresh fruit and creating pies, jams, and other goodies to share with one another. Other items are donated to shelters for the homeless, group homes and the battered women’s safehouse.
Veggies & Herbs
Tomatoes, grapes, herbs, corn and other tasty edibles are grown in our garden area. The children love salsa day where they gather up the vegetables and herbs and create their own special recipes.
Blossoms & Blooms
The children love to garden and cut flowers. The wonderful aromas lift a child’s spirits and provide a relaxing atmosphere.
